Alben Zatarain is a Mexican-American artist who grew up in Monterey Park, a small community bordering East Los Angeles, California. Born in Yuma, Arizona, he first developed an interest in art as a youngster, when he discovered that he could draw his favorite comic book characters. After taking art classes through out high school, Alben enrolled at Pasadena City College to continue developing his artistic skills. He was commissioned by HENAAC in 1998 to render portraits of the inductees for an exhibition to debut at HENAAC’s 10th Anniversary Celebration in that same year. He celebrated 2007 by getting married and seeing the release of his rock band's first album.
