HENAAC Official Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs)
HENAAC is proud of the many relationships it has forged with academic institutions, corporations, government agencies and sister non-profits across the country. In some cases these relationships have been commemorated with a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The entities represented in this section are the most recent HENAAC MOUs and MOAs signed. Hispanic Scholarship Fund MOU
04-13-2008

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) and HENAAC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on April 13, 2008.  HSF President & CEO, Frank Alvarez and HENAAC Chair & CEO, Ray Mellado agree that by leveraging their organizations strengths they can greatly increase the number of Hispanics earning a college degree with a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math major.

This cooperative effort between HENAAC and HSF shall be referred to as the HSF/HENAAC Alliance and it will allow both organizations to expand opportunities and programs available to the Hispanic community.

 

US Army Accessions Command MOU

During the exciting festivities surrounding the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, TX at the famous Alamodome, HENAAC was invited to formalize the longstanding relationship with the US Army Accessions Command (USAAC).

Lt. General Benjamin C. Freakley, Commanding General of the USAAC, and Ray Mellado, Chair & CEO, HENAAC signed an MOU to provide a cooperative framework to increase the participation of Hispanics in the fields of engineering, science, mathematics and technology.  The objectives are for both entities to increase employement opportunities for Hispanic science, engineering, mathematics, and technology students and professionals in America's Army; to increase educational and professional development opportunities; to support USAAC in meting its strategic vision and recruiting goals; and to assist the Army in achieveing its diversity objectives.

US Coast Guard MOU

The US Coast Guard and HENAAC have made a momentous commitment to diversifying our nation's future technical workforce.  A formal partnership between the two entities began in early 2004 with the signing of an MOU between Admiral Thomas H. Collins, former Coast Guard Commandant and Mr. Ray Mellado, HENAAC Chair & CEO.  This MOU aimed to work on programming designed to increase the number of Hispanic students preparing for professional technical careers. 

This partnership was again solidified during the 19th Annual HENAAC Conference by Rear Admiral Clifford Pearson, Assistant Commandant for Human Resources for the USCG and the HENAAC Chair.   This agreement enhances the former partnership and will enable the two entities to collaborate on initiatives to increase participation of Hispanic Americans at Hispanic Serving Institiutions in Coast Guard sponsored programs.

US Army Corps of Engineers MOU

The US Army Corps of Engineers and HENAAC entered into a historic memorandum of understanding (MOU) in January 2004, which formalized the relationship between the two organizations.  Originally signed on behalf of the USACE by then Commanding Lt. General Flowers, it was expanded by Lt. General Strock and has served as a blue print for MOUs that HENAAC has developed with other government agencies. 

Now entering their fourth year of partnership, the current Commanding General, Lt. General Van Antwerp, and the Chair & CEO of HENAAC, Ray Mellado again signed this agreement to re-affirm this historic partnership and continue the work they are doing in order to maintain America as the world's technology leader. 

Both entities work in a cooperative framework through the creation of educational and professional opportunities to increase the participation of Hispanics in the fields of science, mathematics and engineering and to assist USACE in diversifying its engineerign and scientific workforce.

IBM, SHPE and HENAAC Alliance

The Hispanic Alilance for STEM Opportunities marks collaboration between the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), HENAAC and IBM.  Diana Gomez, President, SHPE, Ray Mellado, Chair & CEO, HENAAC, and Adalio Sanchez, General Manager, Technology Collaboration Solutions, Systems and Technology Group, IBM, announced this alliance during SHPE's annual National Technical and Career Conference January 10 - 13, 2007.

To launch the alliance, IBM provided a $150,000 grant to help fund a series of STEM-focused summer camps for Hispanic youth.  The alliance provided camps in Tucson, AZ, Boulder, CO and Los Angeles, CA. To find out more on the 2007 camps, please click here.

The Department of the Navy MOA

Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Manpower & Reserve Affairs, William A. Navas, Jr. and HENAAC Chair & CEO, Ray Mellado entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) during the HENAAC 18th Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA,  to commemorate mutual objectives and goals to support The Department of the Navy (DON).

Together DON and HENAAC plan to increase Hispanic participation in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and Federal Civialian positions within DON.  The partnership offers enhanced visibility for DON as a great employer for the Hispanic community and allows HENAAC to work with many individuals within the various DON branches to achieve this important goal. 

SAE International MOU
09-21-2005

SAE International and HENAAC entered into a MOU to cooperate in a mutually beneficial manner to encourage the education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) of all students, with a particular focus on Hispanic students.  They both agreed to also encourage their organizations to actively seek out other potential areas of cooperation in which the objectives of each organization are met.

The MOU was signed by Raymond A. Morris, SAE Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer and Anna M. Park, Executive Director of HENAAC.  SAE International is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 educational and scientific organization dedicated to advancing mobility technology to better serve humanity.  Together both organizations promote STEM to underserved communities around the country.  SAE provides A World in Motion educational kits that HENAAC uses during its Viva Technology national K-12 program and in-turn HENAAC promotes the SAE organization and kits to teachers and students !
