Do I have to be enrolled in a college or university in the Fall of 2008 to be eligible for a scholarship?
Yes. You must be enrolled in a full-time academic program in the Fall of 2008 to receive a scholarship. Please contact the HENAAC office if you will be a part-time student or in a co-op position. HENAAC requires proof of Fall 2008 registration prior to receiving your scholarship check.

I am a senior in high school; do I qualify for the HENAAC scholarship program?
The majority of the scholarships offered under the HENAAC Scholars Program require that the applicant have university status. However, a few scholarships do not have that requirement. If you are a high school senior and will be enrolled full time in a college/university in the Fall of 2008, we do encourage you to apply.

Which majors qualify for the HENAAC scholarship program?

Which majors qualify as material science?
Materials engineering, metallurgy, nanomaterials, and polymeric materials.

If I am pre-medicine, pre-nursing, or in medical school, am I eligible to apply?
If you plan to use your major to do research then you are eligible to apply. If you plan to be a practicing medical doctor or nurse then HENAAC currently does not have a scholarship for either of these fields. Check back with us in 2009.

Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to apply for a scholarship?
A majority of the scholarships offered under the HENAAC Scholars Program require U.S. Citizenship. However a few scholarships require U.S. residency or have no citizenship requirement. If you are not a U.S. citizen we encourage you to still apply.

Do I need to be Hispanic to qualify for a HENAAC Scholarship?
The HENAAC Scholars Program is designed to award scholarships to students who show strong leadership skills in the Hispanic community, technical community, and academic community. All candidates must have strong commitment and involvement in the Hispanic community.

Do graduate and undergraduate students compete for the same scholarships?
No. Graduate and undergraduate students compete separately.

If I qualify for more than one company sponsored scholarship, will I be considered for all that I qualify for?
Yes. HENAAC will determine all the scholarships your major and citizenship status allow you to compete for.

If I am a previous HENAAC scholarship recipient am I eligible to re-apply?
Yes, provided you are enrolled in a full-time academic program in the fall of 2008.

If awarded a HENAAC Scholarship do I have to attend the HENAAC Conference Oct- 10-12, in Houston, TX to receive my scholarship?
Yes. HENAAC provides transportation and complimentary registration to all HENAAC scholarship recipients. Qualifying students may also receive transportation support.

Who selects the scholarship recipients?
The Scholarship Selection Committee is comprised of corporate, government and academic representatives as well as various HENAAC Board members and the Scholars Program Manager.

What happens if I miss the April 30, 2008 postmark deadline?
If your application packet has a postmark of May 1, 2008 or a later date, HENAAC will not consider your application for the 2008 scholarship cycle. It is very important to meet the postmark deadline.

How will I know you received my application and it is complete?
HENAAC will mail you a postcard indicating that your application is either complete or incomplete. It is important to make sure you list a summer address on your application.

How and when will I be notified if I was selected as a HENAAC scholar?
HENAAC will contact you by phone and email in early August if you are selected as a HENAAC scholar.
