Viva Technology Students Go To Annapolis

 

Through an ongoing relationship with the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis,

Maryland, HENAAC arranged for 6 students from HENAAC’s partner schools to be

participants in the Naval Academy's new Summer STEM Program for middle and

high school students.  For 6 days, from June 22 - 27, 2008, students lived, worked,

and played on the grounds of the Naval Academy participating in a fun but demanding

string of exercises all encompassing STEM concepts.  

 

All six of these students are past participants in HENAAC's acclaimed Viva Technology

Program. 

 

The United States Naval Academy's Summer STEM Program is designed to

encourage 7th - 10th Grade Students to pursue a course of study in engineering

and technology throughout both high school and college and provide students,

civilian and military, with the tools and motivation to cultivate a lifelong career in

Engineering Activities staged at the camp include Hydrology and Fluids

projects that will allow students to analyze advances in sea travel, the Science of

Law Enforcement (including movement sensors, alarms, and Biometrics), and

Cryptography (both traditional and digital.)

 

The following 6 students were nominated by HENAAC and accepted to the

Naval Academy's Summer STEM Program:

Arthur Maldonado - Rosemead High School, Rosemead, California

Guillermo Rosemblat - Dr. Michael M. Krop High School, Miami, Florida

Mina Ghorbani - Dr. Michael M. Krop High School, Miami, Florida

Nikita Bodoukin - Dr. Michael M. Krop High School, Miami, Florida

 

All six of these students are past participants in HENAAC's Viva Technology Program, 

which is designed to engage inner-city and rural K-12 students, teachers and

parents in the applications of technology in order to stimulate interest and academic

achievement in math, science and engineering, thereby laying the foundation for

students to select and succeed in college and university degree programs leading to

careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
